51 PwDs in Vizag get three-wheel bikes

Fifty-one individuals with disabilities in Visakhapatnam received free three-wheeler motor vehicles at the Collectorate premises on Monday as part of a state government initiative aimed at fostering independent living and self-reliance.

The distribution, organized under the State government’s mobility assistance program, saw participation from legislators Vishnukumar Raju and Vamsi Krishna Srinivas, District Revenue Officer M. Visweswara Naidu, and Assistant Director of the Department for Differently Abled Persons, Kavitha, who flagged off the vehicles. The initiative is designed to support persons with disabilities (PwDs) by providing them with accessible transportation options.

Each three-wheeler vehicle is valued at approximately ₹1.02 lakh, according to Mr. Raju. The current distribution includes 60 vehicles sanctioned for the six Assembly constituencies in Visakhapatnam district for the fiscal year 2025-26. Out of 79 applications received, 51 eligible beneficiaries were selected following established criteria, said Ms. Kavitha.

Mr. Srinivas emphasized that efforts will continue to identify and include other eligible persons who may benefit from the program. The initiative is part of a broader statewide effort led by the State Corporation for Differently Abled Persons, chaired by Gadupooti Narayanaswamy. Under this expanded program, a total of 1,750 motorized scooters are being distributed across Telangana, with 10 units allocated to each Assembly constituency.

The initiative reflects the state’s commitment to enhancing mobility and accessibility for PwDs, enabling greater participation in daily activities and economic opportunities. Officials noted that the vehicles will help recipients commute independently, reducing reliance on others for transportation.

Eligibility for the scheme is determined by the Department for Differently Abled Persons, which follows a transparent selection process. Additional distributions are expected in phases across the district and state in the coming months.
