Apple Set to Release AI-Powered Smart Glasses in 2027: Features & Specs

Apple is set to launch its first smart glasses next year, marking a significant step in wearable technology with AI-powered features and integration with Siri. The Cupertino-based tech giant is developing these glasses to function primarily as voice and camera-based devices, focusing on visual intelligence rather than augmented reality displays.

Unlike traditional augmented reality glasses, Apple’s smart glasses will rely on cameras to allow Siri to analyze the wearer’s surroundings. This capability enables the assistant to answer questions, provide contextual information, and translate signage in real time. Additionally, users may be able to ask Siri to capture images and set reminders to revisit them later, a feature previously hinted at in macOS 26.7 leaks. The glasses will also include speakers for audio playback, positioning them as open-ear headphones.

Privacy concerns surrounding Meta’s Ray-Ban smart glasses may influence Apple’s approach to photo and video capture. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is unlikely to allow standard photo and video functionality in the initial release, avoiding potential privacy issues.

Apple is designing the glasses in-house, offering multiple frame styles including large rectangular designs reminiscent of Ray-Ban Wayfarers, slimmer rectangular frames similar to those worn by CEO Tim Cook, and both larger and smaller oval or circular options. The frames will be made of acetate, a durable and premium alternative to plastic, with color options including black, ocean blue, and light brown.

Future iterations may position the glasses as health devices, potentially incorporating heart-rate monitoring similar to the AirPods Pro 3 and software features like Apple Watch’s Workout Buddy. However, these health-focused capabilities are not expected in the first release.

Apple is reportedly planning to unveil the smart glasses at its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in 2027, allowing developers to prepare software and integrations. The glasses are expected to ship later that year, likely in September, coinciding with the anticipated launch of an all-glass iPhone to commemorate its 20th anniversary.
