Christian Women Urged to Embrace Godly Character and Dignity at Lagos Conference

Christian women in the Diocese of Lagos West have been encouraged to embrace godly character, strength, and dignity in their homes, churches, and communities during the 27th Annual Conference of the Women Organisation. The event, themed "Dressed for Honour," drew over 1,000 delegates from across the diocese and was co-hosted by the Oshodi and Ikeja Archdeaconries.

Dr. Lydia Odedeji, President of the Women and Girls’ Organisation (WGO) and wife of the Bishop of the Diocese of Lagos West, Anglican Communion, delivered the keynote address. She emphasized that being "dressed for honour" extends beyond outward appearance, aligning with Proverbs 31:25: “She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come.”

Odedeji highlighted virtues such as humility, kindness, compassion, and faith as the true garments reflecting the character of Christ. She urged women to become builders of their homes and communities by using their words wisely, promoting peace, and setting examples through their conduct. The WGO President also underscored the role of women in shaping future generations and encouraged them to remain strong amid life’s challenges.

She called on women to recognize their worth in Christ rather than societal expectations, embracing service, integrity, and righteousness. Odedeji challenged attendees to examine their spiritual "garments," including negative traits like bitterness and pride, and replace them with forgiveness, humility, and hope. She urged women to fulfill their God-given responsibilities as mothers, wives, mentors, and leaders.

The Bishop of the Diocese of Lagos West, Rt. Rev. Dr. James Olusola Odedeji, cautioned Christians against worldliness in his welcome address, reinforcing the call to steadfast faith. The three-day conference featured health talks, discussions on contemporary issues, Bible study sessions, and stage presentations.

Odedeji also commended the Lagos State Government for its welfare initiatives, including rehabilitation centers for children and young people. On state policing, she advocated for constitutional safeguards to prevent abuse. She encouraged Nigerian women to participate actively and peacefully in upcoming elections, rejecting violence, vote-buying, hate speech, and misinformation.

The event provided a platform for spiritual growth, networking, and community engagement among Christian women in Lagos.
