Delhi Traffic Alert: Janmashtami Shobha Yatra to Block DBG & Ajmal Khan Roads (1‑7 PM)

The Delhi Traffic Police has issued a detailed traffic advisory warning of significant disruptions across the national capital due to a Janmashtami Shobha Yatra and motorcade rehearsals for the BRICS Summit 2026. Commuters across Central, South, and West Delhi are expected to face traffic congestion, slow vehicular movement, and extensive route diversions throughout the afternoon and early evening.

The Janmashtami Shobha Yatra procession will begin at 1 p.m. and is expected to conclude by 7 p.m. Approximately 2,000 devotees, featuring traditional Raths and Jhankis, will march through prominent commercial and residential zones. Traffic movement on Desh Bandhu Gupta Road (DBG Road), Ajmal Khan Road, and adjoining areas in Karol Bagh will be severely restricted during this six-hour window. Commuters have been urged to avoid these specific roads and seek alternative routes.

Simultaneously, traffic movement on more than 35 key roads in Delhi is being regulated until 3 p.m. due to full-scale motorcade rehearsals for the upcoming BRICS Summit 2026. Major thoroughfares affected by these rehearsals include Sardar Patel Marg, Janpath, Mother Teresa Crescent, Teen Murti Marg, Akbar Road, Rajesh Pilot Marg, Mathura Road, Dr Zakir Hussain Marg, Ashoka Road, Africa Avenue, Tolstoy Marg, Shanti Path, Niti Marg, and Panchsheel Marg.

Diversions are currently enforced at several key intersections, including Patel Chowk, the RML Hospital roundabout, Dhaula Kuan Flyover, Moti Bagh Flyover, Vande Matram Marg, Madarsa T-Point, and Lodhi Road. Traffic heading toward Bharat Mandapam from Mathura Road is subject to strict regulation and alternate routing.

At the Dhaula Kuan Flyover, airport-bound and Gurgaon-bound vehicular traffic is being diverted to NH-48 and Gurgaon Road, with other vehicles directed via Ring Road and Vande Matram Marg. At Moti Bagh Flyover, commuters traveling toward South-West Delhi, IGI Airport, and Gurgaon are being rerouted via Rao Tula Ram Marg. Traffic near Mandi House originating from Feroz Shah Road, Bhagwan Das Road, and Copernicus Marg is being diverted toward Barakhamba Road and Sikandra Marg.

The Delhi Traffic Police has appealed to the public for full cooperation to ensure the safety of devotees and smooth traffic management. Road users are advised to minimize unnecessary travel through affected stretches, allow extra time for their trips, and strictly adhere to real-time instructions from traffic personnel. Officials strongly recommend using public transport, particularly the Delhi Metro, during the disruption period. Emergency and essential service vehicles will be provided priority passage at all designated points.
