Final postmortem report rules out suicide in Mir Raza case, confirms death by gunshot

The final postmortem report in the Mir Raza Ali case has definitively ruled out suicide, confirming that the 26-year-old businessman died from a gunshot wound to the back. Sindh Police spokesperson Sanaullah Abbasi announced the findings on Monday, stating the report was based on forensic analysis conducted after the exhumation of Mir Raza’s body. The investigation team is now reviewing the report as part of an ongoing probe into the July 29 killing in Karachi’s Gulistan-e-Jauhar area.

The postmortem report, released in the interest of transparency, revealed multiple injuries consistent with foul play. Chemical analysis and forensic evidence confirmed a gunshot wound as the cause of death, contradicting earlier speculation of suicide. Investigators also noted black marks, injury marks on the feet, and blood stains on lower-body tissues. A 12-centimeter fracture was found on the right thigh, along with deep injuries to the jaw area. These findings align with the family’s long-standing claim that Mir Raza was murdered.

The development comes as a judicial commission, led by Sindh High Court Justice Omar Sial, begins examining potential investigative failures in the case. During the commission’s first hearing three days prior, Justice Sial assured the family of transparent proceedings, stating all evidence would be presented publicly. He emphasized that no private meetings would influence the inquiry, even with high-ranking officials. The commission’s mandate includes reviewing police performance, negligence, and procedural flaws rather than conducting a new investigation.

Mir Raza’s family, including his father Mir Hussain, mother, and sister, appeared before the commission. Family lawyer Jibran Nasir criticized the Sindh government’s initial decision to form the commission without consulting them. Mir Hussain has consistently rejected the suicide theory, insisting his son was killed. The judicial panel’s role is to identify systemic issues in the original investigation, which the family believes was mishandled from the outset.

With the postmortem report now public, investigators are expected to follow new leads while re-examining existing evidence. The case remains under active police scrutiny as authorities seek to resolve discrepancies in the timeline and circumstances of Mir Raza’s death. Justice Sial’s commission continues its hearings, with further testimony anticipated from medical officers, police personnel, and ambulance drivers involved in the initial response.
