In Mann ki Baat, PM Modi highlights women empowerment, drug-free Bharat campaign

Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized women’s empowerment and the push for a drug-free India during the 137th episode of his monthly radio address, *Mann Ki Baat*, broadcast on Sunday. Addressing the nation, he highlighted the role of the *PM SVANidhi Yojana* in supporting women street vendors, while also underscoring Mission ShaktiSAT’s initiative to engage young women globally in satellite technology and innovation.
Modi pointed out that nearly 46% of the beneficiaries of the *PM SVANidhi Scheme*—a program designed to assist street vendors—are women. He noted that this translates to about 35 lakh women across the country who are advancing their businesses through financial aid and government support. The Prime Minister shared inspiring examples, such as Babita Sharma from Ghaziabad, who transformed her roadside puja material stall into a permanent shop with assistance from the scheme. Another example was T S Ningamma from Bengaluru, who expanded her small eatery into a more profitable venture, enabling her to provide better education for her children.
Beyond economic empowerment, Modi highlighted Mission ShaktiSAT, an initiative that brings together girl students from 108 countries to explore satellite technology, science, and innovation. He called this effort a significant step toward fostering global collaboration in STEM education.
The Prime Minister also drew attention to Mumbai-based Krishna Seshadri’s *India’s Interactive Historical Atlas*, a digital platform that allows users to explore India’s historical landscape by selecting specific years to learn about rulers and kingdoms. Modi praised the initiative for making history more accessible and engaging, particularly for students.
Addressing the issue of drug abuse, Modi urged citizens to support the *Drug-Free Youth for a Developed India* campaign, emphasizing the need to build a drug-free society for a stronger future. He called on young people, influencers, and content creators to actively contribute to this mission.
Modi also spoke about the growing trend of avocado cultivation in India, noting that the fruit has gained popularity in health-conscious and premium markets. He highlighted how this shift is creating new opportunities for farmers across the country.
With several major festivals approaching, including Janmashtami, Vishwakarma Puja, and Diwali, the Prime Minister urged Indians to embrace the *Vocal for Local* initiative. He encouraged people to prioritize purchasing *Made in India* products during the festive season to support self-reliance and strengthen the economy.
The broadcast was carried live across national radio networks, reaching millions of listeners nationwide.
