Russian Drone Strike on Kyiv Suburb Warehouse Kills 37, Injures Dozens

Russian drones struck a munitions warehouse outside Kyiv on Saturday, killing at least 37 people and igniting a large fire that spread to nearby homes and a restaurant. The blast, which occurred in the town of Myla in the western suburbs, damaged about 50 residential buildings and forced the evacuation of close to 400 residents. The attack followed a pattern of increasing Russian long‑range strikes on Ukrainian logistics and civilian infrastructure.

Kyiv‑region governor Tymur Tkachenko announced the death toll on Telegram, noting that the number of casualties in the Bucha district had risen to 37. He added that rescue and emergency services were still operating at the scene and that dozens of people had been injured. Among the dead was Taras Didych, the mayor of the village of Dmytrivska, which lies near the blast site.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed that the warehouse, which stored “explosive objects,” was hit by a drone and subsequently detonated. He said that criminal proceedings would follow and reiterated that ammunition cannot be stored near residential areas, citing existing regulations. The statement was released as Ukrainian prosecutors began an investigation into the legality of the storage and the company responsible, which has not yet been named.

Prime Minister Sergii Koretskyi expressed regret that a “lesson” had not been learned after a July attack on a munitions depot in Vyshneve, near Kyiv, which also caused civilian casualties. He called the repeated failures “criminal negligence” and urged that those responsible face severe punishment to prevent future incidents.

The Ukrainian Air Force reported that Russia launched at least two missiles and 267 drones between late Friday and early Saturday, targeting Kyiv and other areas. In addition to the warehouse strike, Russian attacks earlier on Saturday killed three people in Kyiv, including a two‑year‑old child and a 14‑year‑old girl in the city’s outer suburbs.

In Russia, officials in the Belgorod region said that a Ukrainian drone attack killed three people and wounded nine, with three injuries in serious condition. In the Russian‑annexed city of Sevastopol, Mikhail Razvozhayev, the Russian‑appointed governor, reported one death and three injuries from a Ukrainian drone strike.

The incident in Myla follows a series of deadly strikes by both sides that have increasingly targeted civilian infrastructure. The war has seen a rise in long‑range missile and drone attacks on logistics warehouses, oil facilities, and port infrastructure, resulting in higher civilian casualties and widespread damage.

Ukrainian authorities have called for a thorough investigation into the warehouse’s storage practices and the company’s compliance with safety regulations. The ongoing scrutiny aims to hold all parties accountable and to prevent future incidents that endanger civilian populations.
