Uttar Pradesh IAS officer resigns, calls journey ‘unforgettable’

Divya Mittal, a 2013-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer, announced her resignation from the service on August 30, 2026, through a social media post. In her message, she reflected on her 13-year journey in the IAS, describing it as unforgettable and expressing gratitude for the experiences and lessons learned.

Mittal, who grew up in a modest background, studied at the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi and the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore before working in London. Despite her international success, she felt a strong pull to return to India, driven by a sense of duty to contribute to her homeland. She joined the IAS and served in various roles, including postings in Deoria and Mirzapur in Uttar Pradesh.

In her resignation note, Mittal shared insights from her career, highlighting the transformative impact of her work on people’s lives. She recounted how her postings in Deoria taught her the importance of standing up for what is right, while her time in Mirzapur reinforced that perceived limitations are often just opinions. She also spoke about the spiritual lessons she learned, crediting the grace of Mother Vindhyavasini and the trust of the people for her growth.

Mittal’s resignation comes after a career marked by significant contributions to public service. She emphasized that her greatest fulfillment came from helping others realize their dreams, such as securing land rights for a family, providing dignity to a disabled individual, and ensuring water access for farmers. These experiences reinforced her belief that true justice lies in maintaining the dignity of every person behind government processes.

She also expressed humility, acknowledging that she received far more than she gave during her service. Mittal credited her colleagues, officers, and employees for their unwavering support, which kept her motivated even in difficult times. A particularly poignant moment for her was when an elderly woman from the Lahuriya Dah hills blessed her after water reached her village for the first time—a gesture Mittal said she would cherish forever.

Her resignation reflects a deeply personal decision rooted in gratitude and a renewed sense of purpose beyond administrative service.
