Galatasaray Edge Göztepe 3-2 in Thrilling Istanbul Süper Lig Showdown
Turkish champions Galatasaray beat mid‑table Göztepe 3-2 in a tightly contested Istanbul Süper Lig match, with VAR moments and a late comeback.

Galatasaray secured a thrilling 3-2 victory over Göztepe in a five-goal Süper Lig match at Istanbul’s Ali Sami Yen Spor Kompleksi on Saturday. The Turkish champions, led by manager Okan Buruk, held off a late Göztepe comeback to extend their unbeaten run in the league.
Göztepe struck first in the 16th minute. A corner from the right by Efkan Bekiroğlu found Novatus Miroshi at the far post, who powered a header past Galatasaray goalkeeper Fernando Muslera. The visitors nearly doubled their lead before halftime, with Andre Henrique forcing a save from Muslera following a through ball.
Galatasaray equalized in the 33rd minute through a deflected free kick. Roland Sallai delivered from the right, and Lucas Torreira’s header took a deflection off Davinson Sánchez before nestling in the net. Victor Osimhen nearly restored the hosts’ lead just before the break, but Göztepe keeper Matej Gašara made a crucial stop to keep the score level.
The second half saw Galatasaray dominate possession and create several chances. Gabriel Sara broke the deadlock in the 55th minute, curling a shot past Gašara despite the goalkeeper’s touch. A controversial VAR review led to a penalty for Galatasaray in the 63rd minute after Osimhen went down under a challenge from Richard Ofori. Osimhen converted the spot kick to make it 3-1.
Göztepe pulled one back in the 65th minute when Juan headed in from close range after Henrique flicked on a long throw. The visitors pushed for an equalizer in the 94th minute, but Gašara denied Osimhen to preserve Galatasaray’s win.
Elsewhere in the Süper Lig, Kocaelispor defeated Konyaspor 2-1 at home, while Rizespor edged Gaziantep 2-1.
