Iran naval commander says force remains ‘alive and well’

Iran’s naval forces remain fully operational and committed to their duties, according to Rear Admiral Shahram Irani, commander of the Islamic Republic of Iran Navy (IRIN). Speaking to state broadcaster Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB), Irani dismissed repeated assertions from former U.S. President Donald Trump that all Iranian naval vessels had been destroyed. The remarks underscore Iran’s defiance in the face of external pressure and highlight the ongoing strategic role of its naval branch within the Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Speaking in Farsi, Irani emphasized that the navy is not only functioning but also prepared to defend the nation and safeguard national security. “The navy is alive and well, continuing its mission with strength and will spare no effort to defend our beloved Iran and ensure and maintain the security of the great Iranian nation,” he stated. His comments come amid longstanding tensions between Iran and the United States, particularly concerning maritime security in the Persian Gulf and Strait of Hormuz, a critical global shipping corridor.

The Islamic Republic of Iran Navy operates under the guidance of the General Staff of the Armed Forces and plays a key role in protecting Iran’s maritime interests, including oil exports and regional trade routes.
