Swiss Police Launch Manhunt After Rave Shooting Kills One in Aarau

Swiss authorities initiated a large-scale manhunt Sunday morning after a fatal shooting at a techno music party in the northern canton of Aarau left one woman dead and five others injured.

Authorities identified the deceased as a 22-year-old Swiss woman. The injured, all in their 20s, were transported to nearby hospitals. Police reported a significant deployment, with large sections of the town cordoned off. They urged the public to share any images or information that might assist in the investigation.

Witnesses told Blick, a Swiss daily, that gunfire erupted around 2:30 a.m. at the outdoor event. One witness described attempting to resuscitate the fatally wounded woman but was unsuccessful. The incident occurred at a covered horse racetrack, which had been advertised as hosting a techno party expected to draw 3,500 attendees.

Swiss police expanded their presence beyond Aarau as a precautionary measure. An army helicopter, deployed by the Swiss Armed Forces, monitored the area from above. State broadcaster RTS confirmed the aerial surveillance.

The shooting has raised concerns in a country where gun ownership rates are among the highest in Europe. Despite this, violent shootings remain rare. In response to rising concerns, Switzerland implemented stricter gun control regulations in 2019.

Authorities have not yet identified a suspect or motive for the attack. The investigation is ongoing, with police appealing for public assistance in locating any potential witnesses or evidence.
